One may think that Ukiyo-e was created for the noble and the intellectuals. Interestingly, it emerged from the common people. Similar to how we gain knowledge through TV, newspapers, magazines and other media (and how we entertain ourselves with mangas and computers) Ukiyo-e served as a medium for entertainment & knowledge for the common people during the Edo period. Thus the importance of keeping that in mind when we are observing Ukiyo-e: to have fun and to enjoy it.
